In my short life here on this big, blue ball I've self-identified as several things: first as a Christian and a Republican conservative, then as an ex-Christian atheist, with no political ties. I want to start living as a brother, as a fellow human being. I seek to dissolve the barriers that divide us. Am I an idealistic fool? Perhaps, but I can’t let go of this notion that, despite what terrible things we humans do to each other and to our planet, we are all made up of the same carbon molecules. We, in our glorious fragility, have lived on this planet for millennia, oftentimes trying to wipe ourselves out, but more often than not, showing each other love and compassion. We are bound together, not always in ways that we understand, even in ways that transecend our cultures and traditions, but humans have a way of banding together, uniting, whether it be from some primal instinctual need for safety in numbers or something else. We are siblings.
